“NAWCAD and The Patuxent Partnership (TPP) are proud to announce that we will be hosting a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics – Inspiring the Next Generation (STEM-ING) event for the tenth year. The STEM-ING 2023 event will be held May 20th, 2023 on the St. Mary’s College of Maryland campus in St. Mary’s, MD. This one-day STEM-ING event is designed for middle school girls in the tri-county region to gain confidence in STEM and learn about STEM fields and associated careers.  Throughout the day, 100 young women will hear from Wonder Women, positive role models in the STEM industry and academia, and will have an opportunity to select from up to 8 fun, interactive, and challenging STEM related workshops.

We need your help to inspire the next generation. STEM-ING is interested in hearing your ideas for workshop topics and activities!

On behalf of STEM-ING, TPP is soliciting STEM workshop ideas to support this great event. Workshops, each 50 minutes in duration, should be fun, interactive, and educational.  They should also help middle school girls to learn about a particular STEM topic. We are especially looking for workshops focused on the topic areas of: engineering, chemistry, robotics, veterinary sciences, and plant sciences.

There have been many popular workshops over the past few years.  One example was the “3…2…1…Blast Off!” workshop where students were asked to build rockets using nothing but straws, cardboard fins and molding clay. Another was “C.S.I: Cyber Unit” where students practiced forensic case detective work to learn about cyber technology and cyber-crime investigation. Lastly, “Climbing Up on Science” has taught how physics keeps climbers safe while students were high off the ground in the sport of rock climbing.

If you have any workshop-specific questions or would like to submit a workshop proposal via the attached template, please contact Laura Ross (laura.e.ross12.civ@us.navy.mil, 301-342-2790) or Kristen Finnegan (kristen.t.finnegan.civ@us.navy.mil, 301-342-5787).

Workshop proposals should be submitted NLT 1700 on Friday, 13 January 2023. To learn more about STEM-ING, please visit our website at www.STEM-ING.org <http://www.STEM-ING.org> .

We look forward to partnering with our community to inspire STEM within our next generation of scientists and engineers.”
